OUR PURPOSE
We can all Stand Tall
Cancer touches all of us in one way or another. While many lives have been taken by this disease, we also know people who have triumphed and are Standing Tall among us. The Standing Tall Fashion Show Fundraiser is produced in this very spirit of overcoming adversity, pain and celebrating strength, tenacity, beauty and courage. Let’s use this positivity to encourage others to Stand Tall and join together to support one other.

Our Inspirations
All the models in this event are cancer survivors - whether they were afflicted with the disease themselves or provided steady support through the arduous cancer journey. These 3 individuals are examples of inspiration and strength that all of our 12 models possess. Take a read and hear their stories.

How has your cancer experience changed you? For me, looking back, at first it was a shock of why/how me? However, I did not have much time to think as our lives suddenly changed as they became consumed with many doctor appointments and various tests, and right into my course of treatment. When all my treatments were finally completed, it was only then that I started to fully absorb what I just went through. When reflecting back I realize it did change me, I had to fight mental and emotional battles of all the questions of why, how and will it come back... but through it all... it has allowed me to slow down, understand what is truly important in my life, and appreciate those closest to me.
What advice would you give someone starting this cancer journey? Surround yourself with as much support as you can and remember you are not alone. Cancer is a disease that not only attacks you physically but will weigh on you mentally and emotionally. Creating a support network will help. At first, you will feel a tremendous amount of anxiety, but found that taking a few breathes and just taking it one day at a time helped greatly. Listen and rely on your medical team.
How has Wellspring helped you and your family during this time? Wellspring was a huge help and without them and my family, I do not think I would have gotten through my recovery as well as I did. My wife, Shelley and I leaned heavily upon them and used their personal one on one counselling extensively as they helped us greatly with the mental anguish that I personally felt through my recovery. I quickly learned that my recovery was not going to be measured on a daily basis but more by week or month. I had a difficult time accepting this at first, but with the guidance, love and nurturing we received from Wellspring they helped me accept and concentrate on the small victories.
Songs that make you happy: Any music by Jack Johnson and a great bottle of wine.
Hobbies: Trail running, gardening, cooking and spending time with my family.

How has your cancer experience changed you? As a two time survivor of cancer, I try and enjoy each day to the fullest and try not to worry about the small stuff. I am more aware that life can change in a minute. I have compassion for others dealing with this disease and I try to be a good support to anyone going through this journey.
What advice would you give someone starting this cancer journey? Only follow the medical advice of your doctors and not everyone who has a “remedy” for you. Make your recovery your number one priority. Stay positive – it is half the battle. Get help from all the health care professionals that are available to you if needed.
How has Wellspring helped you and your family during this time? Wellspring is an amazing source. It prepared me for going forward and what to expect and how to deal with my cancers. I especially enjoyed the exercise and meditation. You meet others in the same situation and you do not feel so alone.
Songs that make you happy: Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond, Happy by Pharrell Williams
Hobbies: Painting, Walking, Watching Grandkids activities

How has your cancer experience changed you? The first time I found out that I had cancer, at first I was 29-year-old, the second time I was 34. It was a shock, and even more the second time, “why this is happening again” I kept asking myself. You want to know what could have caused it to happen again. Everything started to go pretty fast both times, tests and appointments from everywhere, it is a whirlwind, you embark on the journey and do what you have to do. I had the same approach in both time: Let’s fight this thing and even if I was scared, I knew that in the end, I’d be fine. When looking back, this has changed me a lot, it changed the way I see the life, what is really important, be surrounded by people I love, find little pleasures in every little thing, because life can change in an instant.
What advice would you give someone starting this cancer journey? Be positive, surround yourself with peoples who have good positive energy, be alert to the signals your body sends you, be in “action and solution” mode, listen and rely on your medical team, get help from the health care professionals and/or by joining a self-help group and celebrate every small victory.
Songs that make you happy: “I’m alive” and “I drove all night” by Celine Dion, “Wake me up” by Avicii
Hobbies: Card making, cooking, reading, trail and nature walking with my dog, traveling and planning trips, yoga
